Amritsar, October 10, 2013-The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) members on Wednesday joined hardliners in paying tributes to the assassins of Army general AS Vaidya at a function held at the Akal Takht here. Tributes were paid to Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh Sukha, who had assassinated Gen Vaidya, under whose command Operation Bluestar was carried out in 1984 to flush out militants from the Golden Temple. The entire ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD-Badal) leadership stayed away from the event, with the hardliners slamming them for not attending due to “fear of backlash from Hindu voters and the national media.”
