Danish artist with her Punjabi album

Jalandhar, October 11, 2013-She has an uncanny ability to understand the music and culture of Punjab. A casual visit to the state with some of her friends did something that, at that time, she herself did not know how it would alter her life and make her fall madly and deeply with the culture and heritage of the state, almost like it was her own. Even though born Danish, it is indisputable that Anita Lerche has embodied and furthered Punjabi culture through her music. Her upcoming album ‘Sadke Punjab Ton’ does highlight both her appreciation of Punjabi culture and her evolution as a Punjabi singer. In her new single “Merea Ranjha” Anita lets her classical music training shine.
“Merea Ranjha” a touching ballad showcases the upward trajectory of Anita’s musical forte. In fact, this is the first song Anita has written, composed and brought to the spotlight with a music video.
She says, “Heer Ranjha, by Waris Shah, has inspired me a lot throughout the years. On a full moon night a few years ago, I suddenly felt this profound desire and was longing more than ever to be united with my Ranjha. “Merea Ranjha” came to life at this moment and later my composition and lyrics were produced in Denmark by Nasima Music. The video has been shot in picturesque locations of Himachal Pradesh by Param Shiv, director at Yash Raj Films.

The first two singles and videos from Anita’s forthcoming album ‘Sadke Punjab Ton’ have been conceptualised by the multifariously talented Film Director Harjit and lyricist Dr Tejinder Harjit. Both were impressed by her passion and enthusiasm for Punjab and Punjabi culture. This led them to collaborate with her. Anita’s musical journey in India has gradually transformed her into an ambassador for Indian culture.
Since the time Anita released her Punjabi album ‘Heer’ from Denmark in India in 2006, her career as an international singer and performer has expanded by leaps and bounds. She is the first non-Asian woman from the West to sing and release a solo album in Punjabi. The first two videos of her new Punjabi solo album, ‘Sadke Punjab Ton’, have already been viewed by over 8 million music lovers on YouTube.
A documentary dedicated to Anita Lerche, Kashish Punjab Di has been made by Agiapal Singh Randhawa, Senior Producer, Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar.
Moreover, she also features in a Danish documentary called Fra Herlev til Bollywood (From Herlev to Bollywood) produced by a National Television Channel - DR2 in Denmark. Anita has sung and performed in 16 different languages
