Brutal attack in Kenya not against Indians : Sikh Supreme Council of Kenya

Fatehgarh Sahib, October 6,2013 -Jinder Singh Rehri , General Secretary of Sikh Supreme Council of Kenya and Kuldeep Singh Dhami,  leading industrialist of Kenya said recent brutal terror attack on the Westgate Mall in Nairobi(Kenya) was not against Indians.  Rehri and Dhami  who was in SGPC run Sri Guru Granth Sahib World Sikh University, Fatehgarh Sahib today said though among the several persons killed in brazen attack there were Indians but the brazen attacked by launched by Al-Qaida-linked at-Shabab group. “This violence is not targeting the Asian community broadly speaking or persons of Indian origin”, they said.
They said Sikhs in Kenya, whose over 9,000 families are residing there, are deeply shocked and saddened by the brutal terror attack  as  it snuffed out so many innocent lives and some members of the Sikh
community were also among killed. The Indian community there is suffering just as other communities . The Indian community has a has a significant strength in many Kenyan towns. Punjabis and Gujaratis are
enjoying cordial relations in Kenya.  India has a thriving diaspora in Kenya. They informed over 4,000 students from Kenya are in Chandigarh to complete their studies.
During their visit to university,  the delegation of Sikh Supreme Council of Kenya discussed  with the VC Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia , the modalities of setting of an Off-Shore Campus of the university at Mikandu(Kenya) where they(Council) have earmarked  land and substantial amount . The delegation  along with former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh  visited the university today after their meeting
with Punjab’s Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal  who reportedly asked university authorities to prepare a feasibility report which should include the Academic, Administrative and the Financial Implications.
 As per the VC  he would discuss this matter with the President of SGPC who is also the Chancellor of the University. The Delegation from Kenya was also informed about the important contribution the SGPC has
making in the field of education for the welfare humanity.
Former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh said Sikhs in Kenya want to motivate their new generation to the values and culture of the Sikhs and imbibe in them the teachings of Guru and Bhagats enshrined in  Sri
Guru Granth Sahib. He hoped that this visit will prove beneficial for the delegation of Kenya Sikhs. He said it will  probably be first an Off-Shore Campus of any university of Punjab and he hoped that the entire process will be completed within 2-3 years. The Vice Chancellor  said  that there may be more such meetings in
which the terms and conditions of this collaboration shall be discussed after getting the input from the SGPC, Trust and the Syndicate of the University and the matter shall be further pursued.
