Mishap snuffs out lives of Balbir Singh and his two granddaughters



Ludhiana, 16 October, 2013- A 53-year-old man and his two granddaughters were killed after a speeding truck hit their car head-on near Chakk Sarwan Nath village on Chandigarh Road on Tuesday morning.
Three other occupants of the car suffered severe injuries and were rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital; their condition is stated to be stable.The Koomkalan Police registered a case of reckless driving and causing death and injuries due to negligence under sections 279, 337, 338, 427 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), against the unidentified driver of the truck, who fled the spot after leaving his vehicle behind.
The driver took the vehicle’s documents with him. The deceased have been identified as Balbir Singh of Kot Gangurai village, Simranpreet Kaur ( 10) and Armanbir Kaur (two months). Balbir and Simranpreet died on the way to the hospital, while Armanbir succumbed to injuries at Sahnewal Gover nment Hospital during treatment.
According to police, Balbir, his wife Baljinder Kaur (50), sister-in-law Harpal Kaur (35), granddaughters Simranpreet, Armanbir and grandson Sukhman Singh (5) were coming to Ludhiana on Tuesday morning. As their car reached near Chakk Sarwan Nath, a truck hit them head-on.
The passers-by informed the police and also called in an ambulance. Subinspector Chamkaur Singh at Koomkalan police station, said the police had launched a manhunt to the arrest the truck driver.
