Hyderabad , 17 October, 2013-The seventh Agan Bhent Seva
Samagam(consigning to flames with due reverence) took place at Angitha Saheb,
Gurudwara Saheb Barambala, Sikh Chawniat, Kishanbagh . The Sikh community in
South India, performed the Agan Bhent Sewa Samagam with the approval of Akal
Takhat Saheb, the supreme temporal body of Sikhs. Old volumes of Guru Granth Sahib and other religious texts
over hundred years old which cannot be used for reading purposes or for prayers
were consigned to the flames. Old volumes of Guru Granth Sahebji and other
booklets from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and the
booklets vandalised by Seemandhara supporters in Vizianagaram were brought to
Hyderabad. These were then relegated to the fire strictly as per the Sikh rituals.
The exercise was undertaken under the supervision and guidance of Baba Narinder
Singhji, Chief Priest, Sri Guru Granth Sahebji, Choti Jawadi, Ludhiana,Punjab.
The task was performed by the sangat who sang shabad kirtan (singing of Gurbani
keertans) in the presence of the five beloved Sikhs(Panj Pyaras).
The Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) had been
facing a problem in the handling of the old Guru Granth Sahebji’s which
couldn’t be used any longer. The sriptures were thoroughly checked one they
were recieved and only those which were thoroughly worn out were relegated to
the flames, according to S Harbans Singh, president, Prabhandak Committee of
Gurudwara Saheb Barambala. The texts that were found in good conition will be
rebinded and the worn out pages replaced. So far, more than 10,000 Saroops of
Guru Granth Sahib Ji and other booklets have been given to the sangat free of
cost after necessary replacement and rebinding.
