Amritsar, 13 October, 2013(Yudhvir Rana)-Once again, current and former presidents
of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) are at loggerheads over the
issue of erecting a memorial for the 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims in Gurdwara
Rakab Ganj Sahib in Delhi. While DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK termed former
chief Paramjit Singh Sarna as "traitor" of the Sikh panth (faith),
the latter retorted and blamed GK for unnecessarily dragging his name for
achieving his political motives. GK said that Sarna had allegedly instigated one of
his close aides Jatinder Singh Sayali to file a criminal petition in the Delhi
high court challenging the authority of Sikhs' supreme temporal seat - Akal
Takht. General secretary of DSGMC Manjinder Singh Sirsa
said that when the Delhi Sikh body announced to built the memorial in Rakab
Ganj, Sarna had moved a petition before the Delhi high court, raising objection
over the proposed structure, following which jathedar of Akal Takht Giani
Gurbachan Singh had summoned him, where he (Sarna) had accepted to withdraw the
case.
"But as an attempt to gain lost political
ground, Sarna asked one of his aides to file a petition in the high court
challenging authority of the Akal Takht, which is unfortunate and
condemnable," said GK. He alleged that Sarna had filed the case by proxy
with the help of Delhi's Congress government.
"As a humble Sikh, I had withdrawn the petition
from the court," Paramjit Sarna said . He denied that he had instigated
Sayali or ever took help of Congress to address religious issues. He said,
"I don't command minds of other people. If someone individually files a
petition in the court, I can't be held responsible."
Sarna alleged that GK and Sirsa were dragging his
name only to gain political mileage. However, Sarna still maintained that the memorial,
as envisaged by GK, couldn't be raised in the Rakab Ganj gurdwara.
Countering Sarna, GK said, "On one side, there
are a number of memorials of Gandhi family in Delhi and on the other, hurdles
are created in the monument to be built by DSGMC in the memory of those done to
death in 1984 at the behest of Congress."
Badal blames Cong for 'meddling in affairs of Sikhs' . Muktsar: Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal
has alleged that Congress was pursuing its old policy of irrelevantly meddling
in the religious affairs of Sikhs by undermining the position of jathedar of
Akal Takht through its "B team" led by former president of DSGMC
Paramjeet Singh Sarna. Interacting with media on the sidelines of Sangat
Darshan programme at Lambi in Muktsar district on Saturday, Badal said that
filing of a case against the Akal Takht jathedar through an aide of Sarna, a
trusted agent of the Congress, was a testimony that the party was maneuvering
to denigrate the revered position of the jathedar. He said, "Authority of
the jathedar had never been questioned by anyone. Even mighty kings like
Maharaja Ranjit Singh had always bowed before supreme power of the Akal Takht
and accepted its hukmnamas (decrees), thereby upholding its supremacy."
