NGO to clean streets on Guru’s birth anniversary

Amritsar, October 7, 2013-Eco-Amritsar, a nongovernment organisation supported by US-based EcoSikh, will collaborate with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in ecofriendly initiatives during the celebrations on Tuesday (October 8) that will mark the birth anniversary of Amritsar’s founder, Guru Ramdas, fourth Sikh Guru. The NGO will engage students and youth volunteers from the city and nearby villages to clean the streets during the religious procession on the occasion. Volunteers from Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology; Guru Nanak Dev University; Punjab tourism department; and the followers of Baba Kulwant Singh of Ajnala, who contributed to the mission of night cleaning in the Galliara (corridor) around the Golden Temple, will participate in the campaign.
