Andhra gurdwara attack: SGPC upset

Amritsar, October 7, 2013-The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has taken a serious note of the attack on a gurdwara in Bijanagar town of Andhra Pradesh and the burning of the Guru Granth Sahib bir by miscreants over there. In a statement SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said it was an unfortunate incident and those responsible should be dealt with as per the law of the land. “The attack has hurt Sikh sentiments,” he said. Makkar said the miscreants had also attacked members of the Sikligarh community, who were in charge of the shrines or had come to pay obeisance. “Several articles in the shrine were damaged and holdy scripture was taken outside and burnt,” he added.  The SGPC president has asked Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to view the matter seriously and taken action against the perpertrators of sacrilege.  Avtar Singb Makkar also drew the attention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the incident.
