5 dera followers acquitted of murder charge

Sirsa, October 11, 2013-District and Sessions Judge Kuldeep Jain  acquitted all five accused of murdering a Sikh youth during a clash over 'Naam Charcha' at Dabwali in Sirsa in July, 2008. The court acquitted Sunder Dass, Gurjant Singh, Jagtar Singh, Gurdeep Singh and Harmander Singh, all followers of Dera Sacha Sauda
The police had booked them for the murder of Sikh youth Harminder Singh, vice-president of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Sabha, Dabwali on July 18, 2008. Sunder Dass Mehta had organised 'Naam Charcha' at his house located near Dabwali bus stand on the fateful day when activists of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Sabha went there and started objecting to it. In an altercation that ensued, Harmander Singh received a gashing wound on his head. He was rushed to a hospital which declared him brought dead.
The incident had sparked violence and several shops and houses of dera followers were set on fire by angry agitators. A local court had convicted Shivraj Singh, Balkaran Singh, Amarjit Singh, Nirmal Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Giani and Girbinder Singh and sentenced them to imprisonment for seven years each on July 29, 2013. However, District and Sessions Judge Kuldeep Jain acquitted all five dera followers of the murder charge.
