Sri Guru Granth Sahib World World University organized Extension Lecture on the occasion of Birthday of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur



Fatehgarh Sahib, October 16,2013( Prof. BirBikram Singh)-Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh sahib organized extension lectures on the occasion of 344th birth anniversary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. Dr Sukhdial Singh, Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala was the chief speaker at the occasion. The function was presided over by Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar, Former President, SGPC. Giani Jaswant Singh, Damdami Taksal also graced the occasion.

Dr. Gurmohan Singh Walia, Vice Chancellor welcomed the distinguished guests and congratulated one and all on this occasion. He expressed happiness over that the upcoming research centre Bhai Gurdas centre for Sikh Studies will focus on the achievements and contributions of the warriors like Baba Banda Singh Bahadur for the welfare of human kind. Dr Walia said that it was unusual accomplishment for a common man like Baba Banda Singh Bahadur to overthrow such an atrocious Mughal Rule from Punjab. The freedom that we enjoy today is owing to the countless martyrs who fought under the leadership of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.
Dr Sukhdial Singh shared his valuable research on Baba Banda Singh Bahadur with the students; how Banda Singh Bahadur inscribed the teachings of the Tenth Guru on Gold coins to disseminate the message of Khalsa Panth amongst the masses. He also translated some inscriptions written in Persian script in Punjabi for the audience. Dr Singh narrated how Guru’s inspired disciple left a trail of destruction behind him when he launched Sikh forces to avenge the martyrdom of the sons of Ten th Guru.
During the function Giani Jaswant Singh explained the subtle meanings of Gurbani while stressing the relevance of comparative studies of different religions. He told that how Baba Ji accomplished revolutionary task after the spiritual powers bestowed upon him by the Tenth Guru. Prof. Kirpal Singh Badunger stressed on following the teachings of all Gurus as enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. He told that only this way revolutionary change will happen as exemplified by Baba Ji. He congratulated the Vice Chancellor for the commendable work being done by the University in this direction.
Dr. Pritpal Singh, Registrar thanked the gathering. Dr. BS Bhatia, Dean Research, Dr. BirBikram Singh, Dean Students’  Welfare and other faculty members were present on the occasion.
