Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University and Guru Kashi University offering courses sans NCTE recognition, HC told

Chandigarh, October 7, 2013-A petition filed in the Punjab and Haryana high court has alleged that SGPC run Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo (Bathinda), are illegally offering courses in physical education and education as these courses are not recognised by the National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE). Taking up a public interest litigation filed by RD Anand, the division bench headed by chief justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul issued notices of motion to both universities, the Punjab government and the NCTE for filing their replies before November 25.
The petitioner informed the court that these universities were misleading students joining these courses. The court was informed that Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University was offering courses of bachelor of physical education (BPEd) and master of physical education (MPEd) without the NCTE's recognition, while Guru Kashi University did not have NCTE recognition for bachelor of physical education (BPEd), master of education (MEd) and master of arts in education courses.
