Infant boy abandoned in Red Cross Society cradle handed over to NGO

Ludhiana, October 13, 2013-A five - day - old male baby abandoned at the pangura (cradle) installed by Red Cross Society in Ludhiana was handed over to NGO Swami Ganga Nand Bhuriwale International Foundation, by the deputy commissioner (DC) . DC Rajat Agarwal handed over the child to Jasvir Kaur, president, and Kuldeep Singh, secretary of SGB Bal Ghar, which is being run by the NGO. “An unidentified person abandoned the child at the pangura of District Red Cross Society . The child will now live at our SGB Bal Ghar at Dham Talwandi Khurd near Mullanpur,” Singh said. “Many people have already registered at our governmentrecognised adoption centre,” he added. District Red Cross Society had taken the initiative to install pangura to discourage female foeticide and incidents of unwanted children being abandoned at various places. On this occasion, DC Agarwal said, “If due to economic or social problems, parents are unable to raise their child, they can use the pangura scheme.” He said six children had been received at the society’s pangura since 2010.
