Abbotsford, 18 October, 2013(Gurpreet Singh)-The son of former Akal Takht chief Giani Puran Singh has been convicted for "sexual assault" and "sexual interference" with a minor by an Abbotsford court.
Ajai Singh, 37, a raagi (hymn singer) with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), was given 90 days of imprisonment for his misconduct with a 13-year-old girl. His father was the Akal Takht head in the late '90s. Singh was visiting Canada when the matter was reported to police on February 9 this year. The court ordered that he be deported after serving his sentence. SGPC had already suspended him for the misconduct.Speaking on the verdict, the victim's family on the condition of anonymity informed that they were satisfied although had wished for a longer sentence.
